IS THERE A PARTICULAR AGE GROUP THAT IN MOST NEED OF CARDS?
No. The Heart Center is in need of cards for children of all age groups. Please make cards for whichever age group you feel most comfortable making for. Thank you!
WHICH HOSPITALS DO THE CARDS GO TO?
Currently the cards sent to the Heart Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, located in Columbus, Ohio and the Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio (Congenital Heart Collaborative).
DO YOU ACCEPT CARDS ALL YEAR ROUND?
January to November, we accept general cards, closed in December for the holiday and our children’s school winter-break. More information can be found here.
IS THERE A DEADLINE TO SEND IN CARDS?
Great question! Currently we have three different collections taking place during different times of the year. Please refer to the deadline below for the type of cards you wish to donate. For complete details of each collection, please visit our Guidelines page.
Any time between January – November: General cards that can be use to distribute throughout the year.
January 31st: Heart themed “Thinking of You” cards. Since these cards get distribute during February’s Heart Month, we must receive your card by January 31st to allow us time to pack and deliver the cards.
November 1st: Winter-themed/ Holiday Wishes cards.
HOW EARLY CAN I SEND MY CARDS TO YOU?
General cards can be send January-November. As for Heart-Themed cards and Winter-Themed Holiday cards, please send no earlier than 2 weeks prior to the start of the collection date.
WHAT TYPES OF CARDS DO YOU NOT ACCEPT?
We cannot accept “Get Well” or “Feel Better Soon” cards or any cards with messages that would remind the children of their illness.
We also currently do not accept Halloween, Thanksgiving and Easter cards.
HOW SHOULD I PACK MY CARDS FOR MAILING?
For packing and mailing out your donations: cardboard boxes, padded envelopes and clear crystal boxes are an ideal choice to ensure that your beautiful handmade cards arrive to us undamaged.

WHAT SIZE CARD SHOULD I MAKE?
Please stick to the standard A2 or 4-1/4″x5-1/2″ size, 5″x7″ and for square cards 5″x5″ size. But you are welcome to make any shape cards, including steps, interactive and shaker cards.
CAN WE PUT "MERRY CHRISTMAS" ON HOLIDAY CARDS?
Yes. But if possible, we encourage using “Happy Holiday” or make a few extra cards to say “Happy Holiday” as not all the patients & their family celebrate Christmas. It also helps make it easier for the staff to distribute out the cards.
FRONT OF CARD: DO I NEED TO INCLUDE A SENTIMENT?
Yes. All cards need a sentiment (writing) on the front. But please keep inside blank.
INSIDE OF CARD: SHOULD I INCLUDE A MESSAGE OR SIGN MY NAME?
Please leave inside blank. The staff will be writing a personal message to each child before signing.
If using dark colored paper card base, do please adhere a white or light color piece of paper to the inside to make it easier for patients to read the message from the staff.
BACK OF CARD: CAN I INCLUDE A LABEL WITH MY NAME & INFO?
You may include just your name (hand written, stamped or computer print) or your name + “Cards for Little Heart Card Drive” on the back of the cards.
Please do not include any personal (as well business) information such as email, mailing address or phone number. Hospital staff cannot distribute any cards with these informations on.
ARE GLITTERS & EMBELLISHMENTS OKAY?
Yes. But do avoid using anything that might come loose and become a choking hazard for the children such as buttons, sequins, rhinestones or brads.
No loose glitters please.
Okay to use are: glitter pens, Wink of Stella, embossing powders, glitter papers and glitter drops just to give you some ideas.
A RULE OF THUMB: If it does not rub off/come loose, it is okay to use.
WHAT TYPES OF GLUE & ADHESIVES SHOULD I USE?
Please use acid-free types glue and adhesive.
